On September 25th CS2’s very own Alan Edge and James McKenzie will be taking part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s 2018 ‘Brave the Shave’ campaign. This is where people from all over the UK will be shaving their heads all in support of Macmillan Cancer Support . So far there have been over 10,000 brave shavers who have raised over £1million for this worthy cause. This year, CS2 will also be doing our bit for the challenge…
Earlier this year, CS2 Northampton’s very own Alan Edge was diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent a course of intensive Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy treatment, over a 6-week period. This forms the reason for Alan’s passion for this cause, he said “The NHS were fantastic and really did pull out all of the stops to get me sorted out. If I am honest, throughout that period, and to a lesser degree through my recovery and probably still, I was very frightened and unsure as to what was going to happen to me. The Nurses at Macmillan were there to help me whenever I needed it and pretty much ran my life for 6 months or so, they were absolutely brilliant. Whilst I am still not out of the woods, I made a promise to myself that I would try and pay something back for their help and kindness. I’m not quite up to running a Marathon or cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats but I can ‘Brave The Shave’!”
Alan Edge will not be shaving alone, he will be joined by Birmingham-based Building Surveyor, James McKenzie. James has bravely decided to take part and says “I am doing this, because unfortunately too many people in our lives, be it close friends and family directly suffering from cancer, or people we know who have to deal with the horror of one of their loved ones going through it, need people like Macmillan by their side during the most intense struggle many will face.”
You can support James here and Alan here. We have set a target of £500 each for Alan and James and are grateful for all donations that will help us to get there! Keep an eye on our News and Events Page and Social Media to see pictures and coverage of the challenge on the day!
