Recognizing Outstanding Community Impact
CS2 has been honoured with the Community and Sustainability Award 2024 for their pivotal role in supporting the transformation of a dilapidated office space into a vibrant hub for St Basils in Coventry. This prestigious accolade celebrates CS2’s commitment to using their expertise to create lasting, positive change for vulnerable young people and the broader community. The award underscores the power of collaboration and sustainability in driving meaningful impact.
What is St Basils?
St Basils is a remarkable charity dedicated to supporting young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Their mission is to help these young individuals secure and maintain a home, build confidence, enhance skills, seize opportunities, and prevent homelessness from taking hold.
The charity provides safe, supported accommodation through a wide range of residential properties, primarily in Birmingham but also in Coventry. While their main office is based in Birmingham, the recent opening of a new hub in Coventry represents an exciting expansion of their impact.
CS2’s Involvement with St Basils
The Connection: Coventry Building Society
Coventry Building Society (CBS), a long-standing client of CS2, selected St Basils as their charity partner for 2023. This partnership inspired a meaningful project to create a new, functional hub for the charity in Coventry.
St Basils identified a neglected office space in Coventry that offered affordable rent but required significant refurbishment to make it suitable for their work. With the aim of transforming this space into a vibrant hub for their operations, St Basils needed expert guidance.
A Call for Support
Given CS2’s extensive experience with charitable projects—including their work with the YMCA in Milton Keynes and Watford—CBS invited CS2 to contribute to the refurbishment project. CS2 stepped in to provide Contract Administration and Quantity Surveying services, entirely on a pro-bono basis, showcasing their commitment to giving back to the community.
A Successful Transformation
Between October 2023 and January 2024, the office space was transformed into a fresh, functional, and welcoming hub for St Basils. This accomplishment was a collaborative effort, with numerous tradespeople and professionals donating their time, expertise, and materials on a pro-bono basis.
The result is a modern facility where St Basils can continue their vital work of supporting young people in Coventry, providing them with the tools and stability they need to build a brighter future.
Building Communities, Together
The partnership between St Basils, Coventry Building Society, CS2, and the wider network of contributors highlights what can be achieved when communities come together for a shared purpose. At its heart, this project reflects the power of collaboration in creating spaces that foster hope and opportunity for those who need it most.
